traveling with a dog... and a blog

Hi everybody!
Sorry for all the silence from Detective Pups and me.
Recently, we launched a nonprofit pit bull advocacy program called Pits4PEACE. The program is trying to convince the public that pits are good dogs.
We'd really appreciate your feedback!

Thanks!

Copper's Dream Animal Rescue is holding a barbecue fundraiser in Red Morton Park, Picnic Area No. 4, Redwood City Parks, CA on Saturday, June 1st.
Food is $5 in advance through their donate button (through the link above) and $7 at the event. You will get a hot dog or veggie dog, chips, and a drink.
In addition, they will also be holding an adoption event at the same place.

We hope you can all make it! Copper's Dream (and their dogs!) are truly great.

Dogs Needing Homes, a dog rescue run by Bill and Laura Madaras, is closing due to financial difficulty. They used their own money to rescue so many dogs, and now find themselves run deep into debt.
I really don't think any donations would be able to fix this, but, most importantly, three dogs STILL NEED HOMES.

The thing we all want to know: where do our socks go??!!!
Well, stolen away by the sock monster or left at soccer practice, (or even eaten by your dog), we've all got to face the fact that our socks just keep disappearing. They're probably our cheapest item of clothing, and the most-replaced.
And the sock monster strikes everywhere—including wherever you're traveling to. The fact is, when you come home, you're going to have fewer socks—or at least more destroyed ones—than you did when you left. Sometimes, you'll even lose them before you wear them.
That's why it's important to pack more socks than you're really—or rather, really think—you're going to wear. If you're going somewhere outdoorsy, your socks will probably get wet in the river. If you're going to be a couch potato, the sock monster—or your dog—will come by to pick up your prized woolen toesies.
To eliminate sock-losing, bring a bag for used socks and don't just kick them off anywhere in the house. Keep them in your pocket, at least, so they make the journey home!

Wishing you luck with your socks,
The Little Person (& Dog)

If you're tripping with a large group, it's best to divide up responsibilities between people. It just wouldn't be fair to make one person do all of it while everybody else just has fun the whole time.
So divide it into equal teams: these people are earlier risers than the rest, so they can make breakfast every day. And these people are really good sandwich makers, so they can make the lunches every day, because we'll be going on picnics. And these last people really know their barbecue, so they can do dinner in the barbecue pit.
In essence, make sure to divide up the time: it's a vacation for everyone, not just two or three people.

A view from the deck of the Greenwood Pier Inn in Mendocino, California.
Guess what?
We just received an e-mail from the Greenwood Pier Inn, telling us that they are upgrading!
Walls are being painted, suites are undergoing deep cleaning, window treatments will be added, along with new bed linens, and more modern and updated furnishings!
The gift shops are being combined into one big gift shop. This shop will have new and upgraded merchandise, as well as local arts and crafts! The beautiful octogon building is being rennovated into an events center.
The beautiful gardens (to which both I and Pups can testify to from experience) which are already amazing, are being upgraded and manicured. The outsides of buildings are getting paint jobs as well. The Greenwood Pier Cafe is being painted and treated and will re-open in early June with a new & improved menu.

It'll be even more amazing than before—we're going to have to re-review the place! As of now, it's still open, but will probably close soon and open the same time as the cafe.
